We have been living at our home for the past four years and had yet to plant a tree until this spring. I have wanted to plant a tree from the day one but there are so many things to consider when planting a tree we took our sweet time to choose the right tree for our needs.
When considering trees I wanted to make sure we didn’t choose one that produced a lot of seeds like the Elder tree we have our front yard. We also wanted a tree that would give us shade in the summer and leaves in the fall to mulch the garden with. It was also important to choose a tree able to withstand the frigid cold winters of Saskatchewan. The tree we decided to go with is a North American Linden. This was not my first choice tree, I really wanted to plant a Bur Oak but they take a very long time to develop and we needed a quicker growing tree to produce shade in the backyard.
Before we planted the tree I Google searched how to do it and found this site helpful. http://www.wikihow.com/Plant-a-Tree
Planting the tree was a fun family affair.
We put the tree in the east side of the yard so it wouldn’t shade out the garden under the afternoon sun.
I look forward to many hot afternoons kicking up my feet and relaxing under the shade of our family tree.
